Kite Repair Retrofit

Welcome to HP KiteKrafters, the kite ER room at Harbor Wind & Kite Co. For over 20 years we’ve been doctoring kite patients here, mending broken bones (spars), replacing spines, fixing elbows (edge connectors), patching scrapes, tears and bruises on skin (sails), rebuilding mangled noses, replacing bridle legs, and operating on tails. Over the years and after thousands of kite patients, we’ve seen it all. Fortunately we have never lost a patient. I admit that on several occasions we had some kites that were in such bad shape after their accident that I thought they might not make it, but I’m happy to report that our HP KiteKrafter Docs pulled them through and they all survived to fly another day!

Kite retrofitting. Today there are molded kite parts that were never dreamed of when the kites of yesteryear were built. We have new lighter, stronger spars; stand-off fittings, nocks, end caps, bridles, edge connectors, Ferrules, T-connectors, nose guards, bungee cords, line connections and the list goes on and on thanks in large part to the aerospace industry.

We can replace your frame with lighter spars, get rid of your old vinyl tube fittings and replace them with new molded fittings, add new stand-offs and edge connectors, new nocks and bungee cords, replace your old bridle, get rid of the metal connectors and tune-up your kite and bring it into the 21st century. All at a very modest cost considering the major retrofit. Your kite will fly better than ever before and the retrofit will add many years to a superior performance. Most customers say, “Geez, it never looked so good!Email us with your kite brand name or size dimensions and approximate year that it was built. We will send you an estimate by return email.

IF YOU HAVE AN ACCIDENT
THINGS TO DO IMMEDIATELY

  • Stop flying your kite. Check your kite completely. If there is any damage or you are in doubt, it’s time to stop flying. Remember, the more you attempt to fly a damaged kite, the worse the damage will get.

  • Disconnect your kite immediately. In a strong wind after a crash, most damaged kites will be damaged further unless they are released from the flying lines immediately.

  • Carefully assess the damage. What ever is broken, torn or splintered, do not throw it away! Keep every tiny piece of the kite that you can find, fabric, spars, fittings, stand-offs, everything. This is a must! Many times the only way our repair craftsmen can piece it all back together and replace or rebuild parts is to have the broken original to work with. This is very important with fabric as well. Save it all. Every shred!

  • Pack it securely for shipping. Use the smallest box possible to ship the kite. No need for Styrofoam or bubble wrap.

  • DO NOT SEND LINES & HANDLES OR OTHER ACCESSORIES!
